Privacy policy

Hidang is a point-of-sale system for restaurants, made by Argumant ("we"). This policy covers the Hidang app for Android, the Hidang till in a web browser, and this website. It says what Hidang stores, why, where it is kept, and how to have it removed.
Restaurants use Hidang under an account with us. The records a restaurant keeps in Hidang about its own staff and its own sales are the restaurant's: the restaurant decides what goes in, and we store and process it on the restaurant's behalf.
What Hidang stores
About the people who use it
- Name and role, such as owner, manager, cashier or waiter.
- An email address. The restaurant owner signs in with one; for other staff it is optional.
- A PIN or password. These are stored only as a one-way hash, so nobody, including us, can read them back.
About the restaurant
- The business name, branch addresses and phone numbers, and settings such as tax, service charge and receipt text.
- The menu, prices and any photos a manager uploads, and the restaurant's payment QR code if it adds one.
- The network addresses of the restaurant's receipt and kitchen printers.
What happens at the till
- Orders, payments, refunds, voids, discounts, shifts, cash counts, payouts and expenses, each with the name of the staff member who recorded it and any note they typed.
- An audit trail of actions that affect money, such as voids, refunds and price changes.
Hidang does not ask for the names or contact details of a restaurant's customers. Anything staff type into a note is stored as written.
About devices
- The name given to each connected tablet or browser, a connection key stored as a one-way hash, and when the device was last used.
- On the tablet itself, the app keeps its connection key, the current sign-in and copies of menu photos. Android backup is switched off for the app, so these do not leave the device in a backup.
For security
- Failed sign-in attempts, with the name that was tried and the IP address they came from. These are used only to slow down anyone guessing PINs or passwords.
What Hidang does not do
- It shows no advertising and does not use the Android advertising ID.
- It contains no analytics or tracking tools, in the app, in the web till or on this website.
- It does not use your location, contacts, camera or microphone. Photos are only those a manager picks from the device's gallery to upload.
- We do not sell data, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
Cookies
The web till sets three cookies, all needed for it to work: one keeps you signed in, one protects forms against cross-site request forgery, and one remembers which restaurant the browser is connected to. There are no third-party cookies. This website sets no cookies at all.
Where it is kept, and who helps us
- Hidang's servers are in Singapore, with our hosting provider, Contabo.
- Menu photos and payment QR codes are stored with Amazon Web Services in Singapore. Anyone with a photo's address can open it, because tills and browsers have to display it. The addresses are long random names that cannot be guessed.
- An encrypted backup of the database is made every night and stored with Amazon Web Services. Each backup is replaced by a newer one within seven days.
These providers store data for us and may not use it for anything else.
How it is protected
- Everything between the app or browser and our servers travels over HTTPS.
- PINs, passwords and device keys are stored only as one-way hashes.
- Each restaurant's records are kept apart from every other restaurant's in the database itself, not only in the app.
- Disconnecting a device ends every sign-in on it.
How long it is kept
A restaurant's records are kept while its account is open. If an account is switched off, the records are kept so the restaurant can come back, until the restaurant asks us to delete them.
A member of staff who leaves is switched off rather than deleted, because their name is part of the orders and payments they handled. Their email address and other details can be removed. See Deleting your data.
Your choices
- If you work at a restaurant, ask its owner, who can change or remove your details from the staff screen. You can also write to us.
- If you own a restaurant, write to us to see, correct, export or delete your restaurant's data.
We may need to confirm who you are, and that you speak for the restaurant, before acting on a request.
Children
Hidang is a tool for businesses and is not meant for anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. We tell restaurant owners by email about any change that affects what we store or who we share it with.
